Happy Thanksgiving !

But late , I ’ve pore instead on play up my favorite overall farming successes from the twist - down yr . Since we can never spend too much prison term look our blessings , I ’m keeping the trend drift for a seventh straight year , sharing a smattering of the farm success I ’m grateful for in 2022 .

Tripling the Size of My Corn Crop

After successfully growing a farm garden bed full of corn in 2021 , I made architectural plan during the wintertime to crisply increase the size of my crop in 2022 . I ’m grateful to describe the resolution were just as I ’d hoped .

Itripled my planting to three bed in 2022 . And even though I diminish behind on weeding one bed ( and did n’t urine as often as the yr before ) , the corn grew well and fed my family through 11 dinners . Enjoying the sweet discernment of odoriferous corn whiskey for so many night was a highlighting of the agriculture class .

Planting a Peach Tree

My farm is located in a Zone 4 air hole of theUSDA Plant Hardiness Zone Map , which emboldened me to try planting aContender Peachtree this year . Northern Wisconsin is n’t exactly famous peach tree district . But the Contender Peach is rated to hold out in Zone 4 , and I ’m thankful for the delight of look out it rise vigorously since leap .

I planted my Contender Peach near the top of a hill with windbreak trees to the Benjamin West and north , giving it protection from winter cold . I ’ve also mulch the tree with leaves , so I ’m optimistic it will hold out its first wintertime and continue growing happily in 2023 .

Building a Grape Trellis

In the back of my idea , I ’ve always wanted to adjudicate growing grapes . My farm came with old grape vine plant decades earlier by a former owner . But these largely faded away and have n’t been especially productive in the time I ’ve known them .

So in 2022 , I in the end took the dip and plant a trio of Somerset Seedless Grape plants . I also build them a trellis using four wooden billet ( two of them scavenge ) and some galvanized conducting wire . This provides the grapes with something to go up .

They ’re protected from browsing deer inside my orchard fencing , and I ’m grateful to anticipate pleasant-tasting grapevine harvest in the year to come .

Finding a Farm Photo from 80 Years Ago

I ’m something of a farm account fan , and I ’ve always wondered what my farm looked like during its early days . So I ’m thankful that , his year , I was showna in high spirits - resolution aery photo of my farmfrom the former 1930s , less than 20 days after its village .

It was fascinating to see the barn without its late additions , the monumental maples trees in the yard already grown to substantial size , and the honest-to-god plantation occupy with more tree diagram than I ever would have guessed . There ’s so much information to be harvest , and I ’m still having fun studying the photo .
