You don’t need shade to grow one of these classic southern staples in your garden
Camellias ( Camelliaspp . and cvs . , Zones 6–10 ) are mostly thought of as shade bush , andcommon camellia(Camellia japonica , Zones 7–9 ) mixture do look good in the subtlety . The foliation detain a dark glossy green rather of the sunburnt yellow it would be with more sun . However , there are some camellia that do fine in sunny conditions , even here in the hot South . These blooms are very showy and embrace the branches from midfall to Christmas . ‘ Leslie Ann ’ grows fairly cursorily with an good growth habit . It can well reach 10 foot tall but is usually only 5 to 6 feet wide .
Camellias are icons of the southerly garden . They are useful as landscape flora and also make great specimen shrubs . These more sunlight - tolerant selections mean that you do n’t have to miss out even if you do n’t have specter in your garden .
