Six pee tanks were install on the campus of PTS Mechelen this summertime , share the Province of Antwerp . The installation of the tanks eat up a new building labor that pore on sustainability . The six tanks , each with a diam of three meter and a distance of 15 meter , can roll up 630 m³ of rainwater and together weigh 22.5 tonnes .

With all kind of sustainable initiatives , PTS Mechelen demonstrates that they are not only investing in modern substructure and in high spirits - tech teaching tools , but that they are also actively contributing to ecologic awareness and the future of their student .

Our schooling supplies various veggie to the BelOrta auction and sell some in the schooltime shop . What is not sell is donate to Foodsavers , a local food money box . Efficient water managementPTS Mechelen ’s new rain storage installation consists of six sword tubes , each 15 meters long and three meters in diameter . The tubing are link together . Tanks pick up rain from all surrounding roofs ( about 6,000 m² of roof surface area , include the two adjacent indoor garden ) . Three existing rainwater cisterns with a full capacity of 329 m³ will be connect to the new 630 m³ buffer tank car , so that all the cisterns together part as one large storage deftness . In the future , more distant roof may also be connected to the land site .

The gathered rainwater , with a capacity of 959 m³ , will be used in greenhouses , and they will be deploy to body of water plants , flush toilet , and outside taps . This intervention will supplement the current groundwater extraction on the situation , and the school will no longer need to use water faucet H2O or groundwater . The total cost of the young construction was EUR 5.6 million .
