Some favorites to plant now
Hi GPODers , this isJoseph , your GPOD editor . Fallis here in my Indiana garden , which meansbulb - plantingtime ! I ’ve been going through old pictures looking at some of my preferent bulbs and scheming which ones I need to add to my new garden . Here are some things I ’ve got on my list . What are your preferred bulbs?Send in pics!I’d sexual love to share them on the GPOD .
I love alltulips , but late I ’ve been having a affair for the small-scale , species varieties , like thisTulipaclusiana(Zones 3–7)—all the elegance of a tulip in a lowly , more perennial bundle .
Tulipa‘Little Princess ’ ( Zones 3–8 ) is a wonderful little incandescent lamp with cheery orange - and - yellow flowers .

Tulipa‘Little dish ’ ( zona 3–8 ) is a closely related hybrid to ‘ Little Princess ’ in a wonderful ruddy vividness , with a striking routine of blue at the pedestal of the flower petal . I love both of them and come up that they do come back year after twelvemonth if I give them expert drainage and keep the squirrels from eat them .
And one last tulip : Tulipatarda(Zones 3–8 ) is the most vigorous tulip I ’ve ever grown , multiplying each year to make lovely clumps .
I ’m in the mood for a plenty of bulbs — which is why I imagine I need some of this unusual littledaffodilin my garden : Narcissusbulbicodium(Zones 4–8 ) . The single flower are small , but plant in a mass they make a wonderful display , and they have such a sweet , unlike looking at to the peak .

The daffodil looks totally distinctive , but it has one very fantastic trait : It is unbelievable betimes to bloom . This is the cultivar ‘ Rijnveld ’s Early Sensation ’ ( zona 3–8 ) , and it is always the first of the big daffodils to make out into flower , often getting covered with C. P. Snow after it starts but not miss a beat .
grapevine hyacinthsare so great . I love the soft sky - down color of this cultivar , Muscari‘Valeire Finnis ’ ( zone 4–8 ) . It is just as tough , gadfly insubordinate , and fragrant as a normal grape hyacinth , but I just be intimate the insidious colour . It reckon awesome with daffodil .
And let ’s not forgetnatives . Although it ’s not on the common listing of gloam bulbs , dandy white trillium ( Trilliumgrandiflorum , Zones 3–8 ) thrives when planted in the fall like your other bulbs .

Although not technically a electric-light bulb — but still smashing plant in the evenfall with daffodils and an essential source of early springtime colour for ashade garden — is the fantastic native Virginia bluebells ( Mertensiavirginica , Zones 3–9 )
