Christmas cactus, prep for winter
Right along with stores play Jingle Bells by Thanksgiving , my Christmas cactus serenaded early .
Really , I ca n’t trust I ’ve kept this natural endowment works alive for two long time . It ’s in the front room window , where it gets good afternoon sunlight . Usually it gets no lighter after 9 p.m. Along with its long hour of darkness this time of year , I ascribe its succeeder to neglect . I water once a week if it ’s really dry . If my finger detects any wet at all , I wait another hebdomad .
Thanksgiving was the most restful solar day in month . Greg ’s an audio technologist , the humanity behind the curtain for UT football ’s tuner broadcast . So , he was in College Station . Since Daphne ’s bi - alum ( UT and A&M ) , we ca n’t kid her about the winning grade .

I drop hours function in the garden , enjoying it , alternatively of feel frenzied to cram it all in within a few hours . Between digging in bulbs , a few young plant life , shaping , and cleaning up , I actually walked around and admire it . Well , okay , I also come up with a “ few ” revisions , and a tenacious list of succeeding chore , but I did actually stop to smell the rose wine .
New Dawn
Buff Beauty

In the crape bed , I planted a few calendulas and these violas ( Sorbet Babyface Ruby & Gold ) viola to feed over - overwinter butterflies or whoever shows up looking for food . I like their small faces , sort of like grumpy bunny .
I unearthed one of the whiteSalvia coccineasto make room for some calendulas . Its root calculate so just that I stuck it in a pot to see what pass .
On Saturday , before our tardy Thanksgiving mini - feast , we installed the patio plastic , just in time for what may come our agency tomorrow night .

The “ elevate ” salvia will be safe , along with the ornamental / eatable pepper that ’s parented lots of passalongs . Every year , it ’s like a niggling patio Christmas Sir Herbert Beerbohm Tree covered in ornaments .
I unearthed the Plumiera for safety in the shed , and installed row cover over the lettuce bed , fastened up with my Freight Harbor clamps on fond days . Tonight , just to be secure , I ’m cast off a rowcover over the Satsuma orangeness .
I besprinkle cayenne Piper nigrum over the bed to discourage Cedric - computerized tomography from nap in this new “ cave . ” I ’ll let you know if it work .

If you do n’t have a spot to encase in plastic , or a service department or shed , generally you may bring your tender plants near the house and make a tent with rowcover or one of the mantle “ cover ” available at nurseries & box stores . Be cautious about over watering in wintertime . succulent , like aloe vera & others , should stay on the dry side or you ’ll encourage putrefaction .
I could n’t refuse this shot of aTecoma stansfinally bloom , while leaves around it turned yellowish .
At CTG , I ’m editing garden and the programme we ’re taping to start your new gardening class . In December , collar repeats of programme ( or watch on our unexampled internet site ) .

Until next workweek , Linda
