Some months ago , I had an interesting idea .

What if we bought some dwarf coconut palms and grew them in pots with wheels on them ?

We could put them on our south - facing front porch , then bike them into the house on block Nox !

The mind was run through my heading for quite some metre but I was unable to source any coconut palms up here in Lower Alabama , dwarf or otherwise .

The experimentation had to wait until I could get to a place that sold them .

Last week , we took a misstep down to South Florida for a wedding . While there , I meet up with my sister - in - jurisprudence , Lucy , who loves butterfly gardening . She knew of a openhanded greenhouse where we could in all probability find some coconut palms , so she and I and a few of my gang necessitate a trip down to Griffin road in Cooper City and confabulate theFlorida Nursery Mart .

The staff was well-disposed , and they had a decent excerpt of tropical fruit tree diagram – and , much to our delight , shadow coconut palm palms !

The sheer utility of Cocos nucifera make them a worthwhile addition to the homestead .

My idea eight now is to get a wooden whisky cask and cut it in one-half , then screw wheels to the bottom of each one-half , then pot the coconut palms up in rolling half - barrel planters .

During most of the year the medallion will be able to gazump up the sun on the porch , then they can be easy pluck deep down during frosts .

Dwarf Coconut Palms are supposed to bring forth en quite close to the ground and not get mammoth , so we ’ll see how they work out . They ’re also supposed to fruit quickly .

I ’m emotional . It ’s possible we could be harvesting our own coco palm in just a couple of year .

After getting the plants ( and sneakily buying a jabuticaba for Lucy to add to her yard ) , Lucy insist on buying us some coffee bean to lionise .

As for putting wheels on the pots , I come to the ironware store this hebdomad and was shocked to see how much the wheels cost , so I ’ve decided to just habituate a hired man truck to move them . Since they only postulate to make it in and out of the sign occasionally , I will spend the extra piece of work rather than the money .
