A recurrent exercise in deluding ourselves ? We think not .
Yes , we ’re jumping on the bandwagon . Here it is , our web log post on horticulture resolutions for the New Year . But we ’re moderately hopeful around here that we can in reality do these ! ( Unlike the 20 pounds I vowed to loselastJanuary … ) Here are our 2009 Gardening Resolutions , stated in all our optimistic glory .
1 . I will fertilise more . I buy fertilizer every spring and vow to stick to a agenda , but I do n’t ever seem to fecundate more than three times before I forget all told for the rest of the summertime .

2 . I will pay more attention to my borders . I’m haunt with my container garden to the point of ignoring the rest of my garden . My borders are neglected , sparse , and a full melange of plants . I will coddle them a mo more this year !
3 . I will look at my garden with fresh heart and get free of the eyesores I ’ve stopped seeing . My neighbour can see them , I ’m sure . They probably curse me under their breather …
1 . I will pay attention to my garden in July and August , even though I ca n’t stand the heat .

2 . I will remember to water my container , or I will not be allowed to plant any .
3 . I will weed too soon and often . Really !
1 . I will refrain from planting an excessive issue of container . encompassing summer travel + soar summer temporary worker = return heartbreak .

2 . I will take to buy my plant locally whenever possible . I’m queasy of paying demented shipping costs and being disappointed by the half stagnant plant that get at my doorstep . alternatively , I ’ll follow the advice of one of my Fannie Merritt Farmer friends , “ Buy local , and we ’ll produce more tomorrow . ”
3 . I will set an obscene amount of basil . I ca n’t get enough of the material .
1 . I will repot my houseplants with fresh potting soilusing the recipes in the February 2009 issue ofFine Gardening .

2 . I will remove the plastic edging from around my beds and edge them properlywith a skillful nipping mini - oceanic abyss .
3 . I will use succulent in potsin place of hungry summer yearbook .
1 . I will finish what I start .

2 . I will begin what I planned on commence .
3 . I will determine myself to two big projects .
1 . I will not overwater . I always foresee that my plant want more water than they do … which leaves me with lousy roots and creepy-crawly crawly pests .

2 . I will buy only the plants that I really , really want , rather than buying plants just so that I do n’t leave the garden inwardness without something young .
3 . No more containers!I own enough containers for a small army of plant . Why do I keep buying more ?
1 . I will spring up some herbs .

2 . I will grow more container vegetable .
3 . I will design that one corner of our garden that ’s blazon out out to be a Zen garden .
