In a Vase for Christmas.
Many years ago Tony Venison , who for year wrote a gardening column forCountry Life , told me that he went around his garden on Christmas Day every twelvemonth and pick a posy of efflorescence , include just one of every variety he could witness in bloom . He counted them and kept a reckoning from twelvemonth to twelvemonth . Christmas Day in my house is always rather busy , but for years now I have picked a Christmas Eve posy for the table . The number of flowers varies from year to class according to the conditions , but even in the coldest long time I am always surprised at how many blooms I come up once I start research . Hunting for flowers on one of the moody days of the class is a adorable matter to do .
This year we have had trash and C. P. Snow and there are not so many stray summer flowers dawdle on , but still 17 is a goodish total and it should be more but I block to include a couple of blossom .
So here they are .

In the pinkish kitty I have the last of the nerines and a sprig ofSalvia‘Love and Wishes ’ from the greenhouse .
From the winter garden I picked some heather , Erica carnea‘Springwood White ’ . The clematis is the winter flowering ‘ Freckles ’ . There are a twosome of sprigs of viburnum in there include the much maligned ( by me)Viburnum tinus .
In the next pot is a rose and some fragrantLonicera purpusii‘Winter Beauty ’ and winter jasmine , Jasminum nudiflorumwith chunky hip and a sprig ofAbutilon megapotamicumwhich is rarely out of bloom of youth . The variegated foliage here isEleagnus ebbingeii . This has lovely icteric and dark-green leaf but the unvariegated part takes over cursorily when you are not watching and grows powerfully . The whole matter has got too braggart for its boot and has to go . The pink berry belong toSymphoricarpos , another Devils ’ spawn flora which I spend time of day prove to exterminate .

In the fiddling peck there is a sprig of the deliciously fragrantChimonanthus praecoxwith a snowdrop , Galanthus‘Farringdon Double ’ a primrose and a spot ofErysimum‘Bowles Mauve ’ with white winterClematis cirrrhosa‘Jingle Bells ’ .
In the other little pot there is a Christmas rosebush , Helleborus niger , the last ofMahonia xmedia‘Winter Sun ’ , a pansy and a branchlet ofCoronilla valentina . The blue sky is lovelyIris unguiculariswhich I favor when it was calledIris stylosabecause I ca n’t spell out ‘ unguicularis ‘ . The red berries areSkimmia japonicawhich I have used for Christmas ornament as all the holly berries were eat up by birds three weeks ago . They do n’t seem to care skimmia berries .
Thank youCathyat Rambling in the Garden for inspiring us to cut our blossom to bask in the house all yr around .

A very happy Christmas to all my blogging friends .

You have a very , lovely collection and they all search in much adept human body than my cuttings . It ’s so cheering is n’t it ? I know the little boots .

A lovely tradition Chloris and what perfect seasonal decorations . I hope that you had a good Christmas .
I agree it ’s a lovely thing to do – I might borrow this idea for Easter . For Christmas , I ’m trying to get in the riding habit of using mostly lifelike items for my outside arrangements . There really are some interesting evergreen plant and berries ( and dried material ) , even in a inhuman mood . There ’s something peculiar about Mahonia – both on the industrial plant and used as cut flowers . Yours is a beautiful vase for Christmas . Happy Holidays !
