Here ’s a brief outline of a marvellous trip to Fernandina Beach , Florida for the recent IHA league – a good time was had by all gather – and we so savour the warm weather and cheer ( a good luck from the cold temp back in my Maryland garden ! ) . It seems so odd to have all of the leaves off of the trees and the woodstove fail and then arrive at a place with warm sunshine , balmy breezes and tropical plants in bloom . ( I even went swimming in the Atlantic Ocean and it was quite pleasant – not cold at all . )

Well it is challenging to fit a whole league into one short web log , however I will hit some of the high spot . you’re able to go onwww.iherb.organd read about the group discussion and speaker and even order a transcript of the proceedings . It is always inspiring to get together with similar - minded people and apportion gardening and herbal peak , musical theme , recipes and just the general camaraderie ; this IHA group is especially heartfelt to me and it is like gravel together with old friend .

This conference which was theme “ Spice It Up ! ” was particularly stimulating for me as it was all about chile pepper since Capsicum is Herb of the Year for 2016 . We had some great speaker unit ( too numerous to advert each one here ) and I was proud of to assemble keynote Dr. Mark Uchanski from the University of New Mexico , who gave two enlightening platform on genus Capsicum . Although , I have co - authored three Book on chile peppers , I still learned novel information from him !

Jane Taylor , gain the Otto Richter Award and founder a wonderful program on Childrens ’ Gardens – she is the guru of design kids ’ gardens – and it was bang-up to reckon so many of her accomplishments . path to go Jane !

My program was onChiles & Chocolate – I made a veggie chili ; plentiful live chocolat with anchos ; and dark chocolate , chipotle & salted pistachio barque . I had more than a few folks enjoin me that it wasthe bestchili that they had ever eaten , so I will post the formula for it soon . And the chocolate chipotle nut bark is simply providential – I’ll post that formula next – since it would make a great holiday talent for your favorite chocoholic or chilehead .

Fernandina Beach is a adorable , small town locate on Amelia Island in Northern , Florida . We were able-bodied to walkabout the townspeople easily , shop and dine and even hinge on the tram back and forth to the church where the event was carry . We even dumbfound to walk on the beach and along the backstreets and waterfront . I ’d go back there for a visit anytime !

We had really good vendors – and I tried to buy something from each one of them . The interns , conference committee , helpers / volunteer and caterer all did a smashing job – thanks to each and every one of you !
