Here in southwest Ontario , Canada , the calendar month of June can be red-hot and dry . It ’s the calendar month of summer solstice with the longest period of daylight and shortest nighttime around June 20 or 21 . Our gardens are starting to thrive and it ’s garden spell season — perfect for grabbing fresh ideas .

You may not experience it by the name phenology , but you certainly have it off what it is . Phenology isthe science of observing annual first events in nature . When flower buds open . When peeper first peep . When bee appear . When migration make it . When bulbs bulge out up . The tilt is endless .
Seasonal changes prompt natural responses in the plant and animal kingdom . It is interesting to take note these events and compare them year over year . I jot them down in a Google calendar I ’ve devoted to Phenology .
