This is n’t the first cover charge crops mix I ’ve made . Some year ago I madea much crazier mix :

decently now I have a limited motley of seeds available so I am working with what I have . It ’s also getting closer to winter , so warm - season plants are n’t go to live for long .

The Seed Mix

This current cover crop mix includes :

MustardTurnipsDaikonsRye ( Grain Rye , not “ Rye Grass”)Pinto BeansBlack - Eyed PeasWinter Peas ( Frostmaster)Crimson CloverLentils

The reason for this mix is to add constituent thing to the grunge and create a living polyculture that will fertilize the soil biology . When you do n’t have enough compost , it makes mother wit to grow your own in seat .

The Problem With Compost

I remark in the video that purchasing compost has become unmanageable due to aminopyralids and other contamination working their mode through the provision chain .

“ Have you consider identifying a root of compost that does not hold aminopyralids ? I know you well enough to know this is not beyond you . You suffer authority with phony excuses . You just ca n’t give to lose authority . Your livelihood bet on it . ”

My response was that I wrotean integral book on the topic .

If you only watched my video and did n’t surveil everything else that was go on , I can see the point . Where is the compost pile ? Where are the video recording show me scrounging for materials to fix the organic issue issue uncover by my recent grime trial ?

Where is that guy who can face up down any gardening problem and express joy ?

It’s Complicated

I in reality do have a compost bundle decently now , and I am working on sources of constitutive matter .

One of the points of the television is that you could develop your own compost , right on in station , with a green manure system – which is much faster and easier than making a crowd of compost for an 8,000ft2 garden .

But we also moved only a month ago . I left behind more than a ton of compost at my old homestead . And an epic compost atomic pile system I built .

Starting again in awful , dead sand is tough . But it ’s a challenge . And it ’s a challenge that I am facing with an audience of over 100,000 multitude .

No pressure , right ?

I do n’t have a source of woodchips yet . I do n’t have my biomass - producinghot tub pond . I do n’t have all my awesome tropic chop - and - drop plant like I had inmy awesome tropical garden . I do n’t have a compost sifter , or a barrow , or even some one-time fencing material to make composting ring from . I do n’t have a chicken pen for manure . I do n’t have a food forest with lots of biomass . I do n’t have nitrogen - deposit trees , or Mexican sunflower plants , or comfrey , or moringa .

We are starting from scratch again , on a rental belongings . We ’ll get there , one part at a time .

The cover crop mix is a sound jump , but it ’s just a starting time .

Hey – you have a go at it me . We ’re going to make compost . Lots of compost .

One dance step at a clip . One invertebrate foot in front of the other .

The self-justification are n’t bogus . And they are n’t even excuses . They are reality right now . We just hightail it an more and more tough situation in the Caribbean and I am so glad to be back . If I “ lose sanction , ” so be it . I ’m just this guy cable , you have it off ?

For now , I am happy to have the space we have and access to a tractor and good provender stores with supply . And I really like being able to order online again andactually have the postal system of rules work !

I ’ll keep you all notify on how the cover crops work out .

And as multiple people mentioned , if cervid come to eat my patch , venison is beneficial eating .

Hunting time of year starts before long . I ’ll be ready .
