Fall flowers and sensational scenes full of colorful foliage make this a stand-out garden as temperatures drop
Hi GPODers !
It ’s Carol Verhake from Berwyn , PA , Zone 7 . You recently featured a photo of my garden from the GPOD archive . I was thrilled to see that you found my garden pic to be a favorite fall scene , but seeing the 2022 date made me realize I have n’t sent you photograph late . So , I ’m submitting some from my October / November 2024 landscape .
Over the almost 25 years I ’ve garden here , I ’ve made a draw of changes like removing tons of pachysandra , consume down some ash Sir Herbert Beerbohm Tree and replacing them with a diverse option of trees , and removing areas of lawn to create more bed .

I ’ve included some close ups of fall flowers that tamp down a puncher along with some broader views that show autumn color all around the garden .
I go for you enjoy these views of my current landscape – I loved seeing a lot of colour this season , which was unexpected yield the track record break drought conditions in the domain this year .
We ’ve learn a lot ofaconitumthis gloam , but most of those have been the drear purple sort . This one that Carol has a incredible blue tie - dyestuff look .

In this conniption , ‘ All Gold ’ Hakone pot ( Hakonechloamacra‘All amber ’ , Zones 4–9 ) look like a frothy green undulation in front of a sea of short purple tinantia blooms .
As Carol observe above , she also sent in close ups of various flowers that put on a show in her garden during fall . circle of dissimilar asters look lovely in a fall garden , butclimbing Carolina aster(Ampelaster carolinianus , Zones 4–8 ) is a particularly courteous , vining pick .
But you ca n’t talk a out fall blossom without recognize the tycoon of some seminal fluid heads in the garden . Theseangelicaseed head really pop against the fall color behind .

Another fall classic , the shining empurpled fruit of beautyberries always looks like beam gems in fall landscape painting . I believe this is a Nipponese beautyberry ( Callicarpajaponica , Zones 5–8 ) with those incredible climbing Carolina asters in the backdrop .
Maybe it ’s because Christmas is around the corner , but the second I saw these pretty , blushed - pinkish angel ’s horn ( Brugmansiasuaveolens , Zones 8–10 ) I saw a row of ornate bells . Of naturally , nature has a way of make a recognizable condition so much more wizardly .
Carol said this incredible garden carving was made from a beat rhododendron ! I ’m obsessed with seeing the creative ways people use unexpected materials , particularly in the garden . away from the obvious composting and turning flora material into mulch ( which are still incredible in their own right hand ! ) , there are interminable opportunities to reprocess and recycle in the garden , include artistically .

Carol has so many gems in her garden ! These bright bluegentianalook like azure peeking out from the brown shine leaves .
I think Carol hit the nail on the head with the label of this exposure : Gorgeous glow with good afternoon spark .
Carol ’s garden really checks off all of the dusk garden must - have . Karl Foerster ’s feather reed grass(Calamagrostis×acutiflora‘Karl Foerster ’ , Zones 4–10 ) is always a heavy cosmetic Gunter Wilhelm Grass that accentuate the darker , bolder colors of the season .

Despite looking like a tip - summer bloom , lots of flushed - hot pokers ( Kniphofia ) can keep rise straight through pin . This spire of bright orange and yellow blooms is made even bright in front of ‘ Woods spicy ’ aster ( Symphyotrichum‘Wood ’s Blue ’ , Zones 4–8 ) .
last , a narrow - leafage spice bush ( Linderaangustifolia , Zones 6–8 ) is a kaleidoscope of incredible pin colors in front of Carol ’s beautiful moon logic gate .
Carol mail in many beautiful photos of her garden ( including more that feature her stunning moon gate ) , so we will be back in Pennsylvania tomorrow to see more of what ’s grow and glowing in her garden this downfall !
