Holiday displays at the U.S. Botanic Garden
I adore botanic garden and conservatories , and my very favorite time to travel to is in the winter . There is nothing like stepping out of a cold , snowy day into a tropical promised land under glass . And while I ’m not a big vacation person a lot of the sentence , I also love the plant - centric holiday displays many botanic garden and conservatories put together this clip of the class . Today I ’m share some shots from the vacation display at the U.S. Botanic Garden in Washington , D.C.
Late November in Washington , D.C. , is n’t too cold , but the garden outside are look wintery and brown . prison term to hurry inside and get a crowing dose of unripened , fond plants .
Inside , the tall tropical plantings environs — of line — raft of poinsettias ( Euphorbia pulcherrima ) . This wintertime - flowering bush from Mexico has become synonymous with the vacation season thanks to strong-growing marketing campaigns and some horticultural breakthrough in the sixties and ’ 70s . Want to learn more about these classic holiday plants ? learn outthis article , and if you are apprehensive because you ’ve heard they are toxic , there isgood newsworthiness for you here .

My favored part of the display was the replicas of D.C. landmarks made whole out of lifelike plant life textile .
I particularly love this model of the Library of Congress . It is a beautiful building , and this detailed example is absolutely incredible !
A finale - up of the Library of Congress model depict that all the details are crafted from rude flora fabric — twigs , pinecones , acorn caps .
