SixOnSaturday

Ahoy there ! A maritime salutation seems appropriate , since we have had veritable sea of pelting in late week , the last few days being no unlike . The garden is very green as a result , but also a little beaten up and boggy in places .   Time for Six on Saturday . Six thing , in the garden , on a Saturday . Could be anything – a flower , pestilence , a bug , a favourite cock , a job to do , anything at all . Join in !

Here are my Six for this week …

1 – Cotinus . This bush is mostly quite annoying , but does have one or two redeeming features . The color of the leaves this time of year is one of them . They have not full turn but this leafy venn diagram caught my optic .

2 – Clematis tangutica . The showy source head are just as lovely as the flowers , I cogitate . There are jillion of them .

3 – Hesperantha cocc . x ‘ zeal salmon ’ .   It ’s not the dependable picture , the works has been battered by a heavy soaker in the last duo of day . Still , I ’m delighted to see this plant life finally bloom . I grew it from seed years ago , I guess it was among the very first batch of HPS germ I got back in early 2016 or perchance even 2015 . I did n’t recognize at the time , but they take years to flower , this is their first appearance . Not much is start to bloom at this time of year , so these are most welcome . I may need to move the thumping to a more large position once they have drop dead back , in their current spot they are difficult to find , never mind see .

4 – Mina lobata , or ipomoea lobata , take your pick . I remember I included a close - up of this some weeks back . An encore is vindicate , it is covered top to bottom in flowers .   They were sluggish to get going once pricked out , but soon receive into their stride , doing much well once planted out . There are just two or three works here , overlay two 6′ fencing panels between them .   The flowers are start to go to cum , but absent frost , they should keep grow Modern ones . I will attempt to collect some seed for next year .

5 – Hedychium , ornamental powdered ginger , stout .   Gill Heavens , of this parish , transmit me unsolicited ginger ejaculate back in April . I terminate up with four seedling which have stayed stubbornly teeny , 1 - 2 cm .   Last hebdomad I blend to a talk on hedychiums by the national collection bearer , Andrew Gaunt . Among the plants he was showing off were this year ’s seedlings , well a meter tall . What?!When I described the size of mine he winced in sympathy , never a honest sign of the zodiac . obviously I should have fed them . Sigh . I ’ve give them a late time of year nosh - up , and they have reply by edging begrudgingly upwards by 1 cm or so . They ’re in the greenhouse , but I ’ll have to add them indoors for the winter , I ’m tell they wo n’t have put on enough bulk under the grease to survive a hoar .

6 – Spider .   I do n’t often let in picture of beasties here but I spotted this specimen among the evanesce geranium leaves . I ’m not sure what variety of garden spider it is , I suspect it ’s a reasonably common type . solution on a postal card .

I trust you get some gardening done at the weekend , I ’m hoping for some dry spells so I can potter about purposefully . Mainly I project to think hard about engraft bulbs then mutter and put it off for another calendar week . Do n’t blank out to check back in as links get added during the daylight .

I ’ll be back next weekend with another # SixOnSaturday .
