A garden reborn, better than ever
Today ’s photos come from Zita Swindells .
I live in Evanston , Illinois , just outside Chicago , and have been gardening for about 25 years . I attempt to integrate many aborigine into the garden . I love to see the 1000 fill with the movement of bird and butterfly ( alas , also squirrels , chipmunk , and rabbits ) .
These first few photos are of my front tone garden . I adore the spring ephemeral in this garden , especially the wake-robin , woodwind instrument anemones , and bleed hearts .

Laceleaf dwarf Japanese maple ( Acerpalmatum , Zones 5–9 ) andHakonechloamacra‘Aureola ’ ( Zones 5–9 )
Natalie Wood anemones ( Anemonesylvestris , Zones 3–7 ) andTradescantiavirginiana(Zones 4–9 )
Yellow wake-robin ( Trilliumluteum , Zones 4–8 )

I have also included below some before , during , and after photograph of the backyard , which show the original garden , the commencement of construction for our elbow room gain ( it got much unsound than the film shows ) , and the new garden ( about two years onetime now ) . The brick paths make border for the bed , so there is less edge than in the old garden , but the mourning band just enjoy growing between the brick ! I conceive I ’ve move every plant in the big seam and dug a fresh bed in my floodplain at the back of the grounds , where many of my aboriginal will domiciliate . So much for trying to have a more realizable space as I enter my 70s !
The original garden , before building depart .
More of the preconstruction garden .

start out of construction
A few survivors from the old garden — an orchard apple tree tree , Japanese maple , a neighbor ’s thuggishEuonymusenveloping the fence , and a climbing arise ( ‘ Zephirine Drouhin ’ ) excavate from under a mountain of debris .
The new garden are full of flowers for claver pollinators .

A brick course provides crisp edging for the young garden .
Limelight hydrangea ( Hydrangeapaniculata‘Limelight ’ Zones 3–7 ) and canna lily , which the hummingbird love .
