Here I am reporting from the road.

On the route again … This past weekend , I attended the Arkansas River Valley Lawn and Garden Show in Fort Smith , Arkansas . It is n’t a very big show , however the vendors that I have seen there in years past rejoinder every twelvemonth because of the locale and the folks there — primarily the Master Gardeners . By all purport and purpose , all of the Master Gardeners throughout the Carry Amelia Moore Nation , whom I have met and worked with , are consecrate , hard actor who partake in a rage for gardening .
The Fort Smith group is one of the most enthusiastic , industrious groups that I have ever encounter . They project , get up , and put this show together , maintain the grounds of the convention center the year round , aid vendors unload , determine up , and reload , are helpful in every way possible , including pose the speakers up , and put up us with hot meal and snacks all day long . They arrive everyday with crockpots of homemade soup and chili con carne , casseroles and sandwiches and regalia of desserts from rice pudding and cakes to biscuit , pixy and scone . In many ways , it is like return to visit with old friends .

Although these type of events help businesses to promote their products , they are held to educate the world . This class ’s theme was “ Urban Gardening ” and talker range from local passe-partout nurseryman to well known personalities and theme wide-ranging from take a leak compost andRose Herb of the Year 2012to Raising Backyard Poultry or Basic Beekeeping to Growing herb for Tea .
I worked with my friend and co - author , Tina Marie Wilcox at the Ozark Folk Center booth , where we sell herb and aboriginal recurrent plants , heirloom semen , books , essential oils and other garden and herb - concern items . I did point out that we sell more seed than ever before . The nurseryman at the OFC save seed from the aboriginal and heirloom plants , harvest and cull out them and store them in canning jar . They are sold by the 1/4 teaspoon - to 1 tablespoon - full , depending on the size of it of the seeds , or by the number of beans . Over the years , the bit of varieties of seeds that they have to offer has slowly increased . Folks really like that they can purchase an old heirloom dill weed seed that come from a gardening admirer in Texas or a handful of Caprimulgus vociferus cow peas like their gran used to cook .
Also , we had a work bench of native plant life , which really sold well . The natives likeAsclepias , Solomon ’s Seal or dish berry adapt well to the locale and put up blooms and/or seeds for our pollinators and wildlife . It ’s clock time to plant the Mediterranean herbs and the annuals , although it is just a shade too betimes to put out tenders like St. Basil . The warm and early spring has made us itchy to put out tender plants just a short too soon , so remember in some area there is still a prospect of frost even !

If you have a garden show , industrial plant sale or seed swop happening in your area , these are worthwhile issue to hang ; you may gather ideas , con young thing , web with other like - minded individuals , obtain industrial plant and seed , not to mention get barrack !
