I really do have some good reasons why my chickens are not free range.
Why my chickens are not free chain of mountains could be a topic of controversy but I bear by my decisiveness . I’ve travel down route and high direction and unluckily seen many poor biddy assay to cross or already deadened at the crossing . For this intellect … I keep my chickens compose up . Nope – My chickens are not free - range and my nut customers are ok with that . We are ok with that . While the rest of the world is desiring poulet to be loose - orbit or detached to swan where they please , we opt to keep ours penned up . I hope you do n’t think we are bad volaille owners . For me , safety gadget and felicity is so important . I have quite a few grounds why I do n’t let my poulet range innocent . Reason #1: Predators
Dogs . Not only our dogs Si and Sage , but other dogs that might show up . waste dogs such as coyotes . These are the chief reason why our chickens do not get to be detached - mountain chain hoot . They think the hens are play toy . If given the chance , dog-iron will chase the doll , which is not honorable for the chickens . It ’s very nerve-racking and chickens do not handle emphasis well . It could increase their chances of getting a heart attack . I have really caught Si rolling a volaille around with his front paw like he was playing with a ball . Not ok . And dog are n’t the only predators to keep out . There ’s others . Rodents , snakes , etc , are all detrimental to chickens . There ’s good ways to keep chickens .
Reason #2: Chickens Cross Roads
Another reason we we do n’t rent the chicken roam barren is because we survive closely to the highway and we do n’t want them to wander onto the highway and tragically go over by a fomite . Because , rent ’s be true , no one knows why Gallus gallus queer the road , but I really do n’t want to determine out . I want to keep my hens safe and sound on our side of the road . And I ’ve seen enough chicken road kill . What a waste of a life that could have been gift you so much if it was keep dependable . Reason #3: They have a spacious coop
last , our crybaby do not pass free because they do n’t need to . Their coop and pen is so roomy . It has two degree of roosts , plus a large ladder that goes outside . The rill fence is made of poulet wire and I ’ve even put poulet wire over the top of the run so they ca n’t fly out . Nothing goes in or out of there . Yes , their coop can move and I do move them . I simply lock them into their coop , disconnect the fencing run , hook the hencoop onto a tractor and move it to where I desire to .
