Winter romance + Ikebana, the art of communion, slowing down
lightness .
That ’s how I felt last Saturday once the errand were done and I was costless at last to amply ingest the rainy romantic day . And jot the magic numbers from the rain gauge into my garden journal .
I get really sentimental about drippy days , since they are so rare . I felt kick upstairs to cook and sportsmanlike , to read and compose , to plan a billion projects . chiefly , I want to wander a squishy garden to jollify in my winter romance of colors that release verdure into scene .

In my wanders , I think aboutthis week ’s CTG , which features Ikebana , the graphics of Nipponese flower arranging . Far more than collecting cuttings for an explosive vase of color , it ’s about a sensitive , spiritual communion with each stalk , leaf , and flower .
I see a lot when we tapedthis week ’s picture featurewith some of the gardener from the San Antonio chapter ofIkebana International . I was honored to meet the women who were born in Japan and learned the art as kid before WWII . I bonk their stories , just as I love the ace from the Americans who fit oversea and convey the art back to the U.S. Through them , they opened fresh garden eye for me to the meaning and contemplation that sometimes eludes me in my rush to “ get things done . ”
In - studio , Tom meets with Jay Marie Buttrossfrom San Antonio Ikebana International to explain more about the spiritual connection of Ikebana design . She also demonstrates a few of her proficiency with flora from her garden , like umbrella industrial plant .

Meet them all on Feb. 5 at the Asian Festival : Year of the Rabbit , at theInstitute of Texan Cultures in San Antoniofrom 10 a.m. – 5 p.m. They ’ll be demonstrating Ikebana arrangements and technique . By the way , I had nothing to do with this being Year of the Rabbit !
Since it ’s a great time to prune trees , Daphne answers this questionfrom JoLea Arcidiacono:“How soon can we apply chipped tree prunings as mulch?”They’re too hot to apply right aside , plus as the microbe condense them , they ’ll link up soil nitrogen that your works also require . allow them sit for a few weeks to a month . you’re able to also add nitrogen to your garden when you use refreshing mulch . regain out more .
Arborist Guy LeBlancanswers our doubtfulness about testis moss and those annoying oak tree diagram sprouts .

Until next hebdomad , Linda
