Throughout July and August , my garden is a yellow blossom parade . jaundiced flower know pollinators love them , so many start strut their stuff in summer when there are more bees , butterfly stroke and hover flies to entice .

Yellow efflorescence are also greatsummer flowers for summer warmth .

Yellow daisy-like flowers rule the summer garden.

While blue flowers may require to challenge the white-livered unity , they do n’t really have a root word to stand on .

Cleopatra is one of the most elegant cannas to grow.

‘ Cleopatra ’ canna is one of the prettiest of the yellow canna . Granted it is a bicolor and has red too , but it ’s the chicken prime and bicolored foliage that in truth stand out . It would be an fantabulous addition to a low garden . You could also tell your friend that canna rootstock are comestible . A fun fact for your next dinner party company .

Zinnias in yellow? Yes, please.

I ’m playing with several icteric zinnias this yr . Inspired by an Instagram berth fromWindfall Flowerslast fall , I ordered several packets . The best one by far areBenary ’s Creamy Yellow , Benary ’s Giant Golden YellowandTidepool Mix .

Some zinnias performed better than others.

I grew ‘ Polar Bear ’ and go wrong miserably . I consider I finish up with two plant out of the stacks I take up . There are so many rabbits this year .

I purchase theseblack wire clochesto slow them down , and it has helped , but I did n’t think of it until the middle of the season . I will reuse them earlier next yr . Because they are black , they languish into the garden which I wish .

I simply must grow ‘Tidepool Mix’ again.

‘ Tidepool Mix ’ turned out to the be the zinnia star of the twelvemonth , and there are several shadiness of yellowness in it too . Next year , I want to try ‘ Crazy Legs . ’ Although the photo below does n’t do it justice , and ‘ Tidepool Mix ’ is a compounding of colors and forms , and it has prosperous icteric cactus - flowered zinnias in it .

I comment lighter - colored zinnias fared much worse from bug damage than the bright ones . Of of course , the Oklahoma series is one of the knotty one out there with ‘ Oklahoma Salmon ’ being the ruffianly of the problematical .

Although I had azinnia architectural plan this year , the cutworm did too , and I lost a lot of peak to them . Like dozens of flowers . It ’s been maddening . I move some zinnia over to the potager to grow them and a few into perennial beds . This exercise . I then moved bigger plant into the curve garden to have them in several position .

zinnia favorites

I ’ll start seed indoors again next bounce and snarf them back so they will be prominent when I transplant them outside . I did that in 2023 , and it did n’t feel very successful , but I did n’t pinch them back either . I ’ve changed my mind again .

On to perennial yellow flowers.

Helenium autumnaleis a beautiful yellow , aboriginal flower that loves the prairie and my garden . It loves it so much that I have to encourage it to not take over . In saltation , I sheer it back and take out out huge subdivision of it . It is still worth growing and the leaf turn a lovely ombre in fall .

call up , native flowers do threefold duty in the garden .

Being flexible as a gardener is important.

Being flexible is not only in force in gardening , it ’s also good in life . Do n’t you consider gardening teaches loads of aliveness lesson like resiliency and tenacity ? I do .

Coreposis tripteris , marvellous tickseed , deserve a place in every naturalist ’s garden and those who also desire that “ grandmother ’s garden ” depend too . Have you noticed that everything is “ granny knot ” right now from home decor to dress ? I suspect the younger generation want to harken back to a simpler time .

Of of course , the movie , Midnight in Paris , taught us no person ’s prison term on Earth is simple .

Rudbeckia hirta ‘Indian Summer’ tangled in her support netting. She’ll grow larger as summer goes on.

Some yellow flowers are simple and beautiful.

Check out this gorgeous yellowRudbeckia submentosa‘Henry Eilers . ’With its aristocratic - immature leaf and quilled petals , it ’s an elegant native found in a railway depot orbit or parking peck depend on who tells the story . I just have intercourse this blossom and will arise it wherever I go in this life .

It is just getting ready to bloom here . discover in Donna ’s Oklahoma garden , she appoint it ‘ Okie Radiance . ’ I ’m sincerely surprised it ’s not more easily found in Department of Commerce . I buy mine fromBustani Plant Farm . It ’s a dandy plant .

Then , there ’s gargantuan coneflower , Rudbeckia maxima . It has already flowered in my garden , but I have it away this industrial plant . It is prosperous to grow . I ca n’t discourse chicken flowers withoutRudbeckia fulgidavar.sullivantii‘Goldsturm , ’ my bane . If you do n’t desire it to grow and essay to take over your Oklahoma garden , I would suggest you do n’t plant it . However , if you have a ironical Hell flight strip , it will expand . Since I ca n’t beat ‘ Goldsturm , ’ I decided to enjoy its cheery mien and keep pull it up wherever I can .

Do n’t throw this genus Rudbeckia with theRudbeckia hirtaspecies . They grow from come into clumps of flower , and honestly , they are difficult to keep going in our mood asthey’re a larval host plant for the checkerspot and border patch butterfly . I still enjoy them and work every twelvemonth to develop a few here and there . I just do n’t expect them to perennialize .

Leaves of ‘Cleopatra’ canna.

I think the leaves of ‘Cleopatra’ cannas are almost more beautiful than the flowers.
